Μystery 82 Rebetiko
project
Description
Mystery 82 Rebetiko was an atmospheric performance - an ode to the history of Asia Minor through the art of puppet theater and the use of multimedia, such as marionettes, images and music, by the French Anima Theatre group, directed by Giorgos Karakantzas. It was presented as part of the Tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe in October 2022 at the X-Bowling Art Center.
Mystery 82 Rebetiko was a fictional performance, where the past and the present intersected. A journey full of images, puppets and rebetiko music, which accompanied the Asia Minor refugees, wherever they came from. With a survivor of the Asia Minor catastrophe as its central protagonist, REBETIKO told the story of forced uprooting and fruitless survival, captured in the form of an Odyssey. A wandering displacement through space and time, which drew its material from earlier and contemporary refugee narratives, but also from the particular musical paths of their tradition.
