Mystery 95 Epiphany
project
Description
Mystery 95 Epiphany was a permanent in situ art installation by the artist Kostas Bassanos on the seafront of Elefsina. The idea of the work with the title Epiphany arose after a search by the artist for the elements that characterize Elefsina and the wider region, such as for example the special, multi-layered historicity of the area and the relationship of the city with the landscape and the inhabitants. The visual installation attempted to highlight some individual characteristics of the above elements and highlight a particular aspect of the public space, such as the pier as a symbol and point of arrival, waiting and departure, which is directly connected to the city of Elefsina. With reference to epigrams on tombstones or monuments, the artist used the pier as a writing and engraving surface to inscribe an excerpt from Pirandello's 1915 novella La Trappola (The Trap), which reveals the fluidity of the human condition, linking life with death, arrival with waiting and the departure, characteristics of the historical and cultural background of Elefsina.
