Description

Synoikismoi A FESTIVAL is the evolution of the Synoikoismos Festival, the first legacy action of Elefsina as European Capital of Culture. Systematizing the philosophy, core values and methodology of the institution's central message, the Festival was held for two years, in 2018 and 2019, with the aim of encouraging artists to experiment and create works inspired by the area of the Synοikismos both as an environment and as a society. Art entered the houses, courtyards and alleys of Elefsina, interfering with the flow of everyday life in the neighbourhood to such an extent that it was difficult to distinguish where the real ends and the artwork begins. During the year of the title, the Festival acquires its own visual identity, grows and spreads to all the city's neighbourhoods. The Synoikismoi - A Festival was the result of a long process, a project that highlighted Greek and European artists as well as cultural institutions, promoted cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and greater mutual understanding. From the Old Railway Station to the beach of Fonias, from ARKOPOLIS to the pedestrian street of Nicolaidou and from the Canteen to the Old Town Hall, art exhibitions, theatrical performances, musical events, film events, contemporary circus and acrobatics, architectural performances, gastronomic encounters and walking tours, workshops, and other unexpected forms of participation, all manifestations of creativity and creativity - the vast majority of which are free of charge - filled the neighbourhoods of Elefsina in an endless celebration of cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, generosity and inclusion.
