| dc.description | Mystery 35 Aeschylus Project - The Persians was a performance that took place at the 30th and the 31st of July 2022 at the Old Oil Mill Open Theatre. Staffed by a team of excellent actors (Christos Loulis, Giorgos Gallos, Michalis Economou, Alexia Kaltsiki, Theodora Tzimou, Giannis Klinis, Aeneas Tsamatis, Elias Moulas, Manos Petrakis, Tasos Karachalios, Vasilis Panagiotopoulos, Giorgos Poulios), premiered by Reni Pittaki, the performance by Dimitris Karantzas raises crucial questions about what constitutes “society,” what is meant by the persistent adherence to power and the need for faith in a guide, human or divine, in a broken world. “The axis through which I read the work,” says Karantzas, “is the course of a people who, from the point of absolute faith, move to questioning and then to conflict, until reaching a manic, spasmodic reaction. Neither blind faith works nor blind reaction. Just like seeing the impossibility of the social contract.” The koilon (the audience area) and the orchestra come together to “participate” in a joint discussion about the defeat, the difficulty of its acceptance and the embarrassment of the aftermath, with the participation of volunteers who little by little enter the space, composing a “society” that looks for the common thread of existence after the catastrophe, as a reflection of the current historical situation. “The Persians represent any society: it is like taking an X-ray of the losing side and of a society that does not know how to proceed after a catastrophic defeat. And Epidaurus functions as a public platform. As in a square that is probably very close to us or in some other country, people talk about how they will resist and how they will hold on when they have lost all their reference points. The Persians lose faith in the king, then in the concept of monarchy, then in God and finally in their own ability to react. | en |

Στελεχωμένη από μια ομάδα εξαιρετικών ηθοποιών (Χρήστος Λούλης, Γιώργος Γάλλος, Μιχάλης Οικονόμου, Αλεξία Καλτσίκη, Θεοδώρα Τζήμου, Γιάννης Κλίνης, Αινείας Τσαμάτης, Ηλίας Μουλάς, Μάνος Πετράκης, Τάσος Καραχάλιος, Βασίλης Παναγιωτόπουλος, Γιώργος Πούλιος), προεξάρχουσας της Ρένης Πιττακή, η παράσταση του Δημήτρη Καραντζά θέτει κρίσιμα ερωτήματα για το τι συνιστά «κοινωνία», τι σημαίνει η επίμονη προσκόλληση στην εξουσία και η ανάγκη της πίστης σ’ έναν οδηγό, άνθρωπο ή θεό, μέσα σε έναν συντετριμμένο κόσμο. «Ο άξονας μέσα από τον οποίο διαβάζω το έργο», σημειώνει ο Καραντζάς, «είναι η πορεία ενός λαού που από την απόλυτη πίστη, περνάει στην αμφισβήτηση και έπειτα στη σύγκρουση, μέχρι που φτάνει σε μια μανιακή, σπασμωδική αντίδραση. Ούτε η τυφλή πίστη λειτουργεί, ούτε και η τυφλή αντίδραση. Σαν να βλέπεις το ανέφικτο του κοινωνικού συμβολαίου». Το κοίλον και η ορχήστρα ενώνονται για να «συμμετάσχουν» σε μια κοινή συζήτηση για την ήττα, τη δυσκολία της παραδοχής της και την αμηχανία της συνέχειας, με τη συμμετοχή εθελοντών που εισέρχονται σταδιακά στον χώρο, συνθέτοντας μια «κοινωνία» που αναζητά το νήμα της ύπαρξης μετά την καταστροφή, σαν αντικατοπτρισμός της παρούσας ιστορικής συγκυρίας. «Οι Πέρσες είναι μια οποιαδήποτε κοινωνία: Είναι σαν να κάνεις μια ακτινογραφία της πλευράς του ηττημένου και μιας κοινωνίας που δεν ξέρει πώς μπορεί να συνεχίσει μετά από μια πανωλεθρία. Η δε Επίδαυρος λειτουργεί σαν ένα δημόσιο βήμα. Όπως σε μια πλατεία που βρίσκεται πιθανώς πολύ κοντά μας ή και σε κάποια άλλη χώρα, οι άνθρωποι συζητάνε για το πώς θα αντισταθούν και πώς θα κρατηθούν όταν έχουν χάσει πια όλα τα σημεία αναφοράς τους. Στους Πέρσες χάνεται η πίστη στον βασιλιά, έπειτα στην έννοια της μοναρχίας, μετά στον θεό και τελικά στην ίδια τους τη δυνατότητα να αντιδράσουν». | el |
