Mystery 57 Revisiting the landscapes of Elefsina 2023 was a cycle of urban design and place-making workshops -with a duration of three years- carried out from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th June 2023 by the artistic and scientific team of the renown French architect and urban planner Patrick Bouchain, accompanied by Elefthérios Kechagioglou, director of Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde, Loïc Julienne, Construire Agency, Alexis Gouin and Guillaume Barnavon of Ya+k collective, Valia Kardi of Mains d’Oeuvres association, Dimitra Kanellopoulou architect and associate professor at ENSA Paris-Malaquais, and Amine Slimani, architect specialized on contemporary heritage. With the participation of artists and architects but also Elefsina’s inhabitants, the action aimed to highlight the city’s human, industrial and ancient heritage, as an extension of the work carried out during the two first editions, based on encounters with local residents and their desire to activate the abandoned landscapes of Elefsina through art, sports and leisure activities. The project took the form of a one-week in situ workshops, involving the construction of poetic, user-friendly and playful installations based on the concepts of climbing, crossing and walking in the city. In this third session of Revisiting the landscapes of Eleusis, we aimed to bring together all the plural voices discovered during the last years, and give them the floor of expression in two ways. First, by inviting them to be the guides on some new paths traversing the city and visiting new emergent ‘Symbols’. Secondly, by inviting them to come to the site of Arkopolis and participate in the activation of this public space under construction. An artistic event was scheduled on Friday 16th of June at 8:00 pm in order to celebrate the end of the workshops, the upcoming Arkopolis site and the future skate-park. A short video of the Mystery 57 was shown during the IN SITU REALITIES - Eleusis Documentary Festival in December 2023. The project was implemented in the context of SYNOIKISMOI A FESTIVAL, while it was financed and supported by: 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde, Périféeries 2028, the European Union, Embassy of France in Greece, Institut Français and Goethe-Institut.
