Mystery 42 - Futuring Waters

project
Description
Mystery 42 Futuring Waters, a series of public interdisciplinary and intercultural meetings (workshops, lectures, performances, podcasts, site visits, etc.), conducted from 29 May to 28 June 2023. It was organized and curated by the artist-educator Jenny Marketou and took place in the Canteen art Hub. In the framework of the action, the latter was transformed on the waterfront of Elefsina, into a Wet Lab with the help of Greek and international artists, curators, architects, archaeologists, activists and active citizens of Elefsina among others. Through this original convergence of co-creators, the artist attempted to propose solutions to ecological issues, to raise awareness and re-vision the waters of Elefsina in an era of intense climate and social change. This was a complex exercise of co-authorship in which the local community, especially young people, have an active role. During the action, the knowledge, methods and techniques acquired in the artist's long-term research transferred, enriching and creating new collaborative methods of knowledge production, which respond to the increased needs of asserting water rights in Elefsina. Finally, a bilingual publication was produced entitled Futuring Waters: a Speculative Manifesto for the Rights of Water. The first presentation took place at the Canteen Art Hub, in Elefsina, in October 2023, followed by book presentations in Athens, New York and Venice.
