Mystery 43 School of waves and weeds was two participatory workshops for all those interested in the arts, environment and politics, leading to the creation of a participatory artwork. These workshopswere held from May 25 to June 1, 2023 at the Canteen art hub by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and the EIGHT, critical institute for arts and politics.
Through interdisciplinary collaborations between scientists, cultivators and artists from the fields of visual and performing arts and music, the educational approaches of the workshop Seeds and Weeds (25th-28th May) traced the journeys of seeds, examining theories of biodiversity, symbiosis and interaction and how these apply to various crop production and farming systems. By exploring poetic and political interrelations between production, development, parasitism and inertia, it seeked to highlight local ecosystems and networks of mutual support, while raising more general questions about the critical new practices, methodologies and educational approaches that respond to the needs of today and their corresponding repercussions in the urban, natural and socio-political realm. The participatory workshop included zones of collective readings, creative writing, recollection, the creation of a unique dictionary, discussions and exchange of views.
On September 16, 2023, the results of the seminars of Mystery 43 School of waves and weeds were presented at the IRIS Factory, where a video-artwork that was produced from the workshops was presented, as well as a participatory performance open to the public, which attempted to create an ephemeral intervention with practices and materials that have been used during the workshops.
In the context of IN SITU REALITIES: Eleusis Documentary Festival, a video of the Mystery 43 was presented in December 2023.
