Mystery 52 Mystikit Elefsina - Educational suitcase was an educational activity organized by the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture in collaboration with Very Young Contemporary Art for 4th grade to 3rd high school students from schools from all over the country.
It was a suitcase in the form of a DIY toolkit of initiation, action and exploration, which traveled from school to school, inviting students and teachers from all over the country and Europe to get to know the secrets of the city of Elefsis, its rich history and cultural tradition through a wandering game.
Opening the suitcase, the students had in their disposal the necessary equipment (measuring instruments, tablet, printer, educational handbooks, etc.) in order to complete an on-site observation and listing, a tour outside the school environment, in the public space, in the heart of the city , in their neighborhood. The myth of the goddess Demeter was divided into nine parts, which corresponded to an audio walk of an equal number of points in Elefsis. Through the walk, the students were guided through the city of yesterday and today, forming the sensory map of the route (sound, people, light, time, climate, sensations). Having received all the necessary stimuli, they were inspired by the material and immaterial data they collected in their wanderings and built the "myth of their city". The action was completed with the students placing in the glass case of the suitcase THE MYSTERY, an object that came from their city and was connected to one of the four strategic directions of the 2023 Eleusis ECoC program: Culture, People, City, Environment.
The action aimed at an emotional experience and re-appropriation of the place, at seeing everyday life as an opportunity for an artistic act, at moving consciousness to the present and now.
The suitcase was available to travel to schools in Elefsina, as well as throughout the country, from October 2022 to November 2023, as well as to other European Capitals of Culture. The educational material was proposed to accompany cross-curricularly or to enrich the existing curriculum of Primary and High School, in particular in the context of the lesson "Skills Workshops" in the Unit "Caring for the Environment" (areas: Ecology - Global and local Natural heritage, Global Local & Cultural Heritage).
