dc.descriptionMystery 111 The Terracotta Army of Eleusis by Juan Esteban Sandoval was the Flagship Project of the Labor axis and it was a tribute to the people who work in Elefsina and the broader West Attica region, a huge collective portrait that was made to represent the people who have forged with their work, their physical toil and their lives the current image of the place where they live. It was presented in the form of an exhibition which was inaugurated on Sunday, December 17, as part of the closing ceremony of 2023 Eleusis, Mystery 1 Closing: Opening | A Ceremony, simultaneously marking the new era of the renovated IRIS factory. Τhe artwork consisted of 2,002 handmade clay helmets that refer to the local workforce and the concept of labour through the eyes of the inhabitants of the Thriasian Plain. In order to create them, Sandoval visited local factories where he had the opportunity to talk with workers, while after an open call to the local community more than 1,000 active or retired workers participated in the project by filling in a questionnaire with their personal information, names of family members, hobbies, preferences. These data, together with words related to the concept of labour collected among the inhabitants of Elefsina, formed the basis for the artist to decorate the helmets using carving and painting techniques. All the helmets were exhibited in a large-scale installation accompanied by a soundscape created exclusively for the project by the international sound artist Giorgos Moraitis to make up a unique experiential experience for the visitor, with multiple references to the industrial environment of the area. Upon the completion of the exhibition, the clay helmets were distributed to the participants, so that the project would not cease to exist, but remain alive within the city in which it was created and for which it was made. The work served as the basis for the Mini Documentary by Giorgos Kyvernitis titled Tonnage.en
dc.descriptionΤο Μυστήριο 111 Ο Πήλινος Στρατός της Ελευσίνας του Juan Esteban Sandoval ήταν το στρατηγικό έργο του άξονα Εργασία. Επρόκειτο για ένα έργο-αφιέρωμα στους ανθρώπους που εργάζονται στην Ελευσίνα και στην ευρύτερη Δυτική Αττική, ένα τεράστιο συλλογικό πορτρέτο που αντιπροσωπεύει όσους έχουν σφυρηλατήσει με τη δουλειά τους, τη σωματική τους προσπάθεια και τη ζωή τους τη σημερινή εικόνα του τόπου όπου κατοικούν. Παρουσιάστηκε με τη μορφή έκθεσης η οποία εγκαινιάστηκε την Κυριακή 17 Δεκεμβρίου στο πλαίσιο της τελετής λήξης της 2023 Ελευσίς, Μυστήριο 1 Λήξη : Έναρξη | Μια τελετή, εγκαινιάζοντας ταυτόχρονα τη νέα εποχή του ανακαινισμένου εργοστασίου ΙΡΙΣ. Το καλλιτεχνικό έργο αποτελούνταν από 2.002 χειροποίητα πήλινα κράνη με σημείο αναφοράς το εργατικό δυναμικό της περιοχής και την έννοια της εργασίας μέσα από τη ματιά των κατοίκων του Θριάσιου πεδίου. Για να τα δημιουργήσει ο Sandoval επισκέφτηκε εργοστάσια στην Ελευσίνα και στη Δυτική Αττική, συνομίλησε με τους εργάτες, ενώ, μετά και από ανοιχτή πρόσκληση συμμετοχής προς την τοπική κοινότητα, περισσότεροι από 1.000 εν ενεργεία ή συνταξιούχοι εργαζόμενοι συμμετείχαν στο έργο συμπληρώνοντας ένα ερωτηματολόγιο με προσωπικά τους στοιχεία, όπως τα ονόματα των αγαπημένων τους προσώπων, τα χόμπι και τις προτιμήσεις τους. Το υλικό αυτό, μαζί με λέξεις που συγκεντρώθηκαν από εργαζόμενους της ευρύτερης περιοχής για τη σημασία που έχει γι’ αυτούς η εργασία, αποτέλεσε τη βάση με την οποία δούλεψε ο κολομβιανής καταγωγής καλλιτέχνης για να διακοσμήσει το κάθε κράνος ξεχωριστά. Όλα τα κράνη εκτέθηκαν σε μία μεγάλης κλίμακας εγκατάσταση στο πρώην εργοστάσιο χρωμάτων, η οποία συνοδεύεται από ένα ηχητικό τοπίο που δημιούργησε αποκλειστικά για το έργο ο διεθνής sound artist Γιώργος Μωραΐτης, συνθέτοντας μία ξεχωριστή βιωματική εμπειρία για τον επισκέπτη με πολλαπλές αναφορές στο βιομηχανικό περιβάλλον της περιοχής. Με την ολοκλήρωση της έκθεσης, τα πήλινα κράνη μοιράστηκαν στους συμμετέχοντες, προκειμένου το έργο να μην σταματήσει να υπάρχει αλλά να παραμείνει ζωντανό μέσα στην πόλη στην οποία και για την οποία δημιουργήθηκε. Το εργο αποτέλεσε αφορμή για το Mini Documentary του Γιώργου Κυβερνήτη με τίτλο Tonnage.el
