MYSTERIES of TRANSITION

Mystery 132 Sky above Elefsina

project
Description
Mystery 132 Sky Above Elefsina was a concert given by the Dresdner Sinfoniker at the 28th of June 2023, at 21:00 and took place at the venue Vlycha - Cemetery of Ships. The Dresdner Sinfoniker, one of Europe’s leading orchestras for contemporary music, filled the sky above Elefsina with sound. The concert links directly the ensemble’s participation with public as well as lesser-known spots of Elefsina, the European Capital of Culture in 2023. Music specifically composed and arranged for the occasion and strikingly original works of the past will be performed in Elefsina’s unique settings. The musical journey started on the rooftops of the historic town, from which alphorn players will summon other musicians, positioned in the nearby archaeological site, the sanctuary of ancient Eleusis. This was a call to congregate for a concert intended to reveal and describe cultural transitions and overlaps. The event embraced music from diverse historic and cultural eras. Works by Venetian Renaissance composer Giovanni Gabrieli will be performed alongside music by film composer John Williams and contemporary pieces by Konstantia Gourzi and Wieland Reissmann. Exceptional arrangements for French horns, alphorns, trumpets and tubas provide a common link in an unusual classical concert which reflects on a narrative of cultural transitions through the centuries
