Mystery 62 Nights of Slowness – Discourses about Time 5th edition
project
Description
Mystery 62 Nights of Slowness – Discourses about Time: 5th edition was the continuation of a series of speeches-events held in June 2023 at the courtyard of Agios Nikolaos, in the Archaeological site of Elefsina, under the supervision of Ilias Kounelas.
Nights of Slowness, the pure philosophical enclave and legacy action of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture program, are part of the "Mysteries in plain sight" section. They were presented in 2018 for the first time in Elefsina, in collaboration with the French Institute of Greece, as part of an annual event of the French Institutes from all over the world, dedicated to the exchange and circulation of ideas. The 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture repeated and developed the action, under the title "Nights of Slowness – Speeches about Time", presenting twice a year, under the light of the full moon, a series of original actions and speeches.
This original series of speeches/events – the pure philosophical enclave and Legacy of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture program – in its fifth edition, explored under the artistic supervision of the actor and director Ilias Kounelas, the time of abandonment, including a film screening, speeches by distinguished personalities, philosophers, doctors and artists. Expecting that before we philosophize time, we experience time, the Mystery 62 Nights of Slowness – Discourses about Time derived its theme from the time of abandonment – the interval in which – according to the curator of the event – the body together with the consciousness moves from one state of certainty to another. As part of the action, the director Stavros Psyllakis, awarded that same year with the Golden Alexander at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, screened the film he created especially for the event, with characters from his works conversing with Time.
Following in the footsteps of Herman Hesse’s saying, which asserts that every life is an exhalation of God and every death an inhalation of Him, special guests from the fields of philosophy, medicine and the arts made important speeches and interventions: Giorgos Kranidiotis, historian of philosophy and first supervising pathologist at the First Pathology Clinic of Piraeus General Hospital “Zaneio”, George Tsagdis, academic philosopher and lecturer at the University of Leiden, Groningen and Rotterdam, Nikos Karvounis, oncologist for a number of years at the Metaxas Hospital, Katerina-Christina Manolakou, visual artist, and Ifigenia Griva, actress.
