Description
Mystery 89 Elefsina by Night, an interdisciplinary art project, from the 1st of July of 2023, has illuminated Elefsina with five lighting installations in different parts of the city, conceived and designed by the internationally renowned award-winning lighting designer Eleftheria Deko.
It is an artistic work that draws inspiration from the myth of Persephone, renegotiates and subverts it, proposing a nocturnal wandering that seeks to illuminate - sometimes thoughtfully, sometimes lightly -the past, the present, the myth, the history of the city, the history of each of us. The luminous route is composed of five light installations consisting of luminous rings that correspond to six colors of Iris.
This journey was completed on July 7 and 8 with the world premiere of the site specific performance Persephone Reconsiders Her Fate by Sara Pearson and Patrik Widrig, artistic co-directors of the legendary PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER (PWDT), at the unique venue of VLYCHA - Ship Cemetery.
The project in its original design was temporary in nature. The luminous rings remained in their installation sites in the city until Mystery 1 CLOSING: OPENING, A Ceremony marking the official end of the title year, and under certain circumstances remained through 2024.
In September 2023, the Mystery 89 Elefsina by Night project received the Gold Award in the Lighting Design - Art (Interior & Exterior Lighting) category of the MUSE Design Awards.
