Mystery 67 Amoli

project
Description
Mystery 67 Amoli – Demeter and Agricultural Cultivation in the Post-Industrial Thriasian Plain was an interdisciplinary art project, which took place on August 27, 2023, as well as on September 14 and 23, 2023. It was a project by the researcher, visual and performance artist Emilia Bouriti and the artistic platform “Syn+Ergasia”. The action focused on creating a network and exchange between the agricultural communities of the region and was the official proposal of the Municipality of Aspropyrgos for Eleusis 2023. Implementing tools and methodologies from contemporary art, participation, experiential knowledge, and science, Mystery 67 Amoli approached the agricultural communities of the two cities, Elefsina and Aspropyrgos, unraveling their cultural heritage and transforming the rural landscape into a field of new possibilities. It included, among other things, a walking route through the farms, audience participation in agricultural work such as pistachio harvesting and vegetables planting, storytelling, traditional music, Arvanitic songs, performances, visual installations, screenings, the presentation of the documentary "100 Years of Agricultural Life in Aspropyrgos," and meetings between the agricultural communities of the Thriassian Plain. The critical message of the project was that food and the connection of humans to the land is a timeless element, not only of survival but also of cultural heritage. It is something that must be preserved and have its protected space in the constantly changing Thriassian Plain.
