Description

On May 27 2022, the Timecircus set off from Antwerp to Elefisna for the longest pilgrimage in the 3,500 years of the city's history. In 9 months around 20 members of the Belgian collective & many more in rotating turns, traveled 3,000 km on foot in nine months, crossing all of Europe, towing the Landship, a construction made by recycled materials, which moves only by human power. Their long journey was an exercise in being ""on the road"" and a vivid commentary on the 21st century of recession, climate change and the unmitigated consumption of natural resources. At the same time it was an action of encouragement, strength, hope and participation of all European citizens, and a valuable contribution to the Opening Ceremony of 2023 Eleusis. They passed through 8 countries and many cities, including Veszprem in Hungary and Timisoara in Romania, the two ECoC sister cities of Elefsina for 2023. Upon arriving in Elefsina on the 4rth of February 2023, they took part in the EcOc Opening Ceremony, as one of the 3 processions that approached the city, bringing a message from Europe. A short video documentary of the Landship journey was presented as part of IN SITU REALITIES Eleusis documentary festival in December 2023. Also, during their journey they kept a minute diary of the places and encounters they made, which was published in 2024 under the title “LANDSCHIP”
