project
Description
Focusing on the ELEVSIS Innovation Lab by 2023 Eleusis, a core set of educational programmes for all ages* was implemented, in order to introduce them to the use of (CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing) and open source design and to explore the possibilities of self-production through simple theoretical and practical exercises. The aim of these activities was to bring the community in contact with modern design and manufacturing technologies, the possibilities of self-production, so that gradually the workshop, would function as a structure open to all citizens - students, professionals and amateurs - in order to learn, imagine and build almost anything. The programme included: Α. 3d printing workshops for all ages, in collaboration with the team of the TUC TIE Lab of the Technical University of Crete, aiming at introducing and familiarizing citizens of all ages with 3D printing, design thinking and maker culture, with 3D printing as a basic tool. They were developed based on the methodology called Educators that the workshop has developed. The educational project collaborated with 13 primary schools from Elefsina and Magoula, 1st EPAL from Elefsina and 3 organizations of the city. More than 350 primary school students, 25 high school students and 15 adults were the beneficiaries of this project. More specifically, the programme consisted of workshops of 3 different levels of immersion and approach to 3D printing technology. 1. Fundamentals of open design & digital fabrication with 3D printers - for primary school students A fast-paced 3D printing training programme of a seminar and laboratory nature, specially designed for the student community, during which students have the opportunity to build small objects on their own through 3D printing. It was attended by all the 6th grade classes from the schools of Elefsina - Magoulas. 2. Open design & digital construction with 3D printers - Interdisciplinary workshop for students. An intensive educational program based on the STEAM educational approach, structured in seminars and practical workshops. The aim of the project was to introduce vocational high school students to the concepts of design thinking, participatory design and maker culture, using 3D printing as a key tool. They were introduced to 3D printing technology and trained in design through 3D design programs, producing their own creations in 1:1 scale. 3. We learn together Intergenerational 3d printing workshops for children, teenagers and adults over 60 years old. Through a two-hour educational workshop, appropriately designed as an introduction to 3D printing, older people worked with teenagers and children to learn together how digital and open source (open source) design and digital fabrication (3D printing) machines can be used to make objects that make our daily lives easier. Β. Ceramics workshops for children and adults, under the guidance of the Eleusinian ceramist and potter Athanasios Katsaras - AMASIS | painter ceramic studio gallery - using the latest technology equipment of the studio. 1. Introduction to Ceramics for students Through a two-hour workshop, participating primary school students learn the basic principles of ancient ceramics while making and firing the Eleusinian figurine that is in the city's museum. They will then have the opportunity to paint it in class with the art teacher according to the photos and directions given during the workshop. 2. Getting to know the art of raku A two-hour workshop for adults to get to know the traditional art of Raku, a Japanese ceramic technique from the 16th century, which came to Europe and America in the first half of the last century and became very popular, mainly because of the impressive ceramic results it reveals through the effect of flame and soot.
